Find out the information that all lenders use to determine your value as a borrower. Fast for a fee online, or free reports by mail. They bury this info - so look hard. Also, be careful about how many people you give permission to check your credit. The number of requests actually lowers your score. This is one reason to consider a mortgage broker. They check only once, not each lending institution. Besides, each person can see who has requested your history before, so they know where you are shopping.
